Union Councils are the lowest tier of the local government system. The major function of the Union Councils is to serve the people by organising them so they can better utilise their resources. Generally, a council covers a population from 10,000 to 15,000 people. Its members, the number of which varies from six to fifteen, are directly elected. These councillors select a chairman among themselves. In district Lasbela there are 19 Union Councils. For an overview of the administrative structure of the district and a list of all Union Councils see annex 1. The major share of the Union Councils income comes from local tax and government funds
